Abstract

The proliferation of motorized vehicles in Indonesia has led to increased traffic congestion and parking challenges. This research primarily addresses the role of technology in monitoring parking lot availability. Wireless sensor networking (WSN) emerges as a viable technology for this purpose. Information gathered from sensor nodes within the WSN is aggregated and processed at a central node. WSN data transmission methods are categorized into single-hop, multi-hop, and clustering. Single-hop and multi-hop methods are less efficient due to rapid power depletion in end-point sensor nodes. In the clustering method, a sensor node represents a cluster member and forwards data to a designated destination node, with cluster head nodes alternating among sensor nodes within a particular cluster. The research methodology employed involves modeling and simulation. The implemented model encompasses several clustering protocols, including the Low Energy Adaptive Hierarchical Clustering (LEACH) and Hybrid Energy Efficient Distribution (HEED) protocols. The analysis conducted for both protocols centers on energy consumption and network lifespan, utilizing consistent parameters, namely Zigbee Xbee Pro, and simulation performed in Matlab R2013a. © 2024 Author(s).
