Abstract

The triumphant rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has entered the educational ecosystem, opening up new vistas of opportunities for the teachers in general and, in specific, for the teachers of literature. In the article "Teaching Literature with AI: Enhancing Education through Automated Analysis and Interpretation,"the authors provided critical insight into the innovative potential of AI technologies within literature education. The authors outline how this tool can contribute to an advanced student understanding of literary text, enabling adaptive learning processes that would support the goal of developing critical competency. In the introduction, existing problems that teachers go through while giving literature classes were briefly highlighted. Some of these problems involve taking care of diverse learners, giving explicit analysis of demanding texts, and inculcation of an attitude of critical thinking in the students. It puts forward that traditional approaches are very good in their own standing but fall way short of effectively tackling these challenges on account of resource and time limitations, coupled with individual student attention. Then, it introduces some AI tools and algorithms devised for the analysis and interpretation of literary texts. Broadly deployed technologies might group these tools into two categories: natural language processing (NLP) technologies that seek to cover the ability to identify themes, symbols, or motifs within text, and sentiment analysis tools, which could reach even the emotional layers of literary works. © 2024 IEEE.
