Abstract

Mathematical literacy ability is one of the basic abilities children must master; mathematical literacy skills are needed in everyday life. However, in the public education report card from the 2022 Indonesian National Competency Assessment (AKM) analysis, less than 50% of children’s learning achievements have reached the minimum competency limit for reading literacy and numeracy. This study aimed to examine the impact of traditional games on the mathematical literacy skills of children aged 5–6 years. The research design used is an experimental research design. The sample used was 59 children: 34 boys and 25 girls. Data collection techniques used are observation and documentation. The results of this study reported that traditional games significantly affect children’s mathematical literacy skills. Based on the results of the Mann-Whitney test, a sig value = 0.000 < alpha (0.05) was obtained. It was decided to reject Ho and accept Ha. These results show that traditional games are more effectively used as a learning process for mathematical literacy in children aged 5–6 years. © 2026 selection and editorial matter, Irena Y.
