Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between leadership personality, employee personality, decisionmaking, and environmentally responsible behavior within the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Employing a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach, data were collected from 412 respondents using structured questionnaires that featured validated scales. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were utilized to examine the hypothesized relationships. Key findings indicate that leadership personality significantly impacts environmentally responsible behavior and that employee personality also positively influences environmentally responsible behavior. Additionally, employee personality is shown to affect decision-making, which subsequently influences environmentally responsible behavior. However, leadership personality was not found to have a significant impact on decision-making, and decision-making did not mediate the relationship between leadership personality and environmentally responsible behavior. This study contributes to the understanding of how personality traits within leadership and employee contexts can drive sustainable practices in organizations. The novelty lies in the comprehensive examination of these relationships within a governmental setting, highlighting the importance of personality traits in promoting eco-friendly behavior. The implications of these findings suggest that organizations should focus on developing leadership and employee characteristics that foster sustainable decision-making and environmentally responsible actions to enhance organizational sustainability initiatives. © 2026, SRAC-Romanian Society for Quality.
