Abstract

BacKGroUNd: cold water immersion (cWi) will aid the recovery process by vasoconstrictive effect and reduction of inflammation and metabolism. The purpose of this study was to examine whether CWI was an effective tool to aid in the recovery of male futsal players. MethodS: overall, 24 male futsal athletes from UNJ Futsal club volunteered to be the subjects of this study. the participants were randomized into 2 groups (coin toss): 12 were assigned to the experimental (cWi) group, and the other 12, in the control group, were given slow jogging recovery (SJr). Both of group required to completed exercise induced muscle damage (eiMd). Furthermore, each group completed tests pre- and post-recovery for physiological measurements (blood lactate, doMS, and cK) and performance measurements (VJ). RESULTS: For lactate-post-recovery, ANOVA revealed significant among CWI and SJR groups (P=0.001). ANOVA revealed no significant in CK activity-pre among CWI and SJR groups (P=0.411), but significant in CK activity-post (P=0.001) between CWI and SJR groups. Furthermore, in DOMS-post, ANOVA revealed significant among both of groups (P=0.001). coNclUSioNS: We demonstrated that cWi after eiMd had an effect on the recovery of elite futsal players by decreasing the lactate concentration, creatine kinase activity (cK activity), and delayed onset muscle soreness (doMS), but no performance improvements were observed. © 2021 Edizioni Minerva Medica
