Environmental issues today have reached a critical stage, not merely due to limited cognitive understanding but also due to a declining sense of environmental responsibility. This study investigates the effectiveness of digital comics integrated with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing students’ environmental awareness, specifically on the topic of environmental pollution. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a quantitative approach, the study involved seventh-grade students from two public junior high schools in Jakarta: SMPN 159 (experimental group) and SMPN 264 (control group), each consisting of 70 students. A pre-test and post-test design was applied to assess the impact of the intervention. The analysis using an independent sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.0013 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. These findings suggest that the use of digital comics in combination with PBL effectively fosters greater environmental concern among students, demonstrating the potential of digital-based innovations in education to address urgent societal and ecological challenges. © 2026 Author(s)
