This study aims to develop a preliminary design of learning function based on the didactical tetrahedron model. The study was a preliminary design phase of design research method. Based on the results of preliminary research, it was found that students had difficulties in solving problems about the function material. One of the serious obstacles in learning function is a reluctance to emphasizes the visual aspect of the concept. Students tend to think the concept of function only in symbolic representation mode. Non-visual approach to learning functions can hinder the development of students to understand function. The notion of didactical tetrahedron in mathematics learning assumes that technology can provide suitable tools to represent mathematics. Dynamic geometry software is an effective and efficient application to help visualize objects mathematics especially in the matter of functions. Dynamic geometry software can provide a visual experience to students in understanding the concepts of functions. The learning design which is prepared with the appropriate learning approach and technology is expected to be able to overcome and anticipate the emergence of learning difficulties and obstacles, so that the objectives of learning mathematics can be achieved properly. © School of Engineering, Taylor's University
