This chapter critically interrogates ASEAN's digital turn, arguing that while successive Summits have rhetorically placed digital diplomacy, cybersecurity, and AI governance at the strategic frontier, the gap between ambition and implementation remains stark. Despite headline initiatives such as DEFA, the ASEAN Digital Masterplans, and emerging AI governance frameworks, national fragmentation, weak enforcement, and the gravitational pull of US-China techno- strategic rivalry constrain ASEAN's agency. The chapter contends that achieving the digital dimension of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 demands not continuity of the "ASEAN Way," but its recalibration toward regulatory convergence, agile governance, and a more networked posture in the contested global digital order. © 2026, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
