Abstract

This research aims to propose model of musical intelligence for elementary school students in Jakarta in Indonesia. This survey research distributed the questionnaires to 120 elementary school students in Jakarta in Indonesia. The technique of analysis in this research used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The research found that the model of musical intelligence for elementary school students in Jakarta in Indonesia offered was good fit for the data. The result of research indicated that student sensitivity to rhythm, melody, and timbre of the music being heard have positive connection with student musical intelligence. Student imitating the short length of tone of a series of melodies played with applause, determining the strong or weak accent in the rhythmic sequence played, and counting the number of notes contained in a series of traded melodies have significant positive correlation with student sensitivity to rhythm of the music being heard. Student imitating with sound of several tones played, differentiating notes of the tone interval being played, and distinguishing the melody motion of the tone interval played have significant positive association with student sensitivity to melody of the music being heard. Student recognizing color of tone, distinguishing the type of pitched musical sound played, and distinguishing the sound of the type of musical instrument that is not pitched played have significant positive connection with student sensitivity to timbre of the music being heard. The conclusion of this study is that model of musical intelligence proposed can be used at elementary school in Jakarta in Indonesia. © 2020 SERSC.
