This study aims to develop and validate a reliable instrument for measuring students' achievement motivation in mathematics using a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) approach. The research was conducted at SMAN 3 and SMAN 12 in South Tangerang, targeting tenth-grade science students selected through cluster random sampling. The instrument development followed a structured process, including theoretical formulation of motivation indicators, expert validation using Aiken’s V index, field testing, data analysis, and final instrument refinement. The CFA results confirmed that the developed instrument demonstrated good validity and reliability, successfully extracting key motivational factors influencing student achievement in mathematics. Expert assessment indicated that all 45 statement items were conceptually appropriate, with an Aiken’s V index confirming their validity. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy (KMO-MSA) value was 0.736, exceeding the 0.5 threshold, while 44 out of 45 items showed an Anti-Image Correlation ≥ 0.5, except for item p27 (0.465). Additionally, the instrument demonstrated strong internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.855, indicating high reliability. These findings support the use of this validated instrument as a robust tool for assessing students’ mathematics achievement motivation, contributing to the development of evidence-based strategies for improving mathematical learning outcomes. © 2026 Author(s)
