The high capacitance and surface area of a polyaniline/polypyrrole composite

Abstract

Polyaniline/polypyrrole (PANI/PPy) composites were synthesised using the oxidative polymerisation approach. For chemical, phase and surface area measurement, the prepared PANI, PPY and their composites were characterised using Fourier transform infra-red, X-ray diffractometer and surface area analyser, respectively. The specific capacitance were measured by cyclic voltammetry method. The aniline:pyrrole molar ratio used to synthesise the composite determined its morphology, The Brumauer-Emmet_Teller (BET) surface area and specific capacitance. In this work, a very high specific capacitance of 832 F g-1 was obtained from a C2 composite that exhibited the highest BET surface area (45 m2 g-1) of the investigated samples. The amount of polyaniline in the composite and the surface area as well were two key factors in producing high capacitance PANI/PPy composites. © 2020 University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy.
