This study aims to analyze the dynamics of Al-Marjan Islamic boarding school's transformation from a traditional salafiyah educational model to a khalafiyah system, in response to social change, technological development, and public expectations for adaptive and contextually relevant Islamic education. The research focuses on the transformation process, its driving factors, and the impact on educational quality, institutional governance, and the pesantren's sociocultural role. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. Data were analyzed thematically using an interpretative framework, with validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the transformation occurred gradually through curriculum integration between religious and general education, modernization of learning infrastructure, and pedagogical innovation. The key driving factors include societal demands for 21st-century competencies, advances in information technology, active involvement of alumni and community stakeholders, and visionary as well as collaborative leadership. The transformation has resulted in improved educational quality, expanded social roles, a more adaptive institutional identity, and sustainable innovation rooted in Islamic values. This study confirms that the transformation from salafiyah to khalafiyah is not merely a structural shift but an epistemological repositioning that requires collaborative, reflective, and context-sensitive approaches. The study contributes to the development of a progressive and sustainable model of Islamic education transformation amid global challenges. © 2026 Amos.
