This study aims to provide alternative solutions to the problem of students understanding the mathematical literacy in primary schools through field trips. The field trip model is expected to generate a positive impact on students in improving mathematical literacy. Based on the results of field observations in 5th grade at 10 elementary schools in Jakarta and Depok and also the results of interviews with teachers and students regarding the implementation of the field trip model in school found that field trip that is expected to support the understanding of literacy mathematical student has not can be carried out properly. Students are enthusiastic about participating in the field trip, but the field has not been reflected in the classroom learning materials. Therefore the future requires the development of models of field trips that are more effective, efficient and practical to support the understanding of elementary school students' mathematical literacy. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
