Abstract

The use of K-band frequency for satellite communication in tropical area needs special attention because the atmospheric condition affects the quality of received signal. The length of K-band wavelenght that has similar size with the rain drop makes the attenuation is very high. This paper aims to make a time series generator to model the rain rate and the propagation attenuation of K-band satellite in tropical area by using Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Data for modeling is obtained from measurement result on field. Synthesizer's results show that rain distribution has similarity with the ITU R P.837 recommendation and the measurement data. The calculation of the most probable state path for a sequence between measured and synthesized data shows the similarity about 97.79%. © 2012 IEEE.
