The emergence of coronavirus disease COVID-19 is a major concern for International Education Institutions. Over a hundred countries have been forced to close their schools unexpectedly because of the COVID-19 containment measures. Since the closure of COVID 19 over a billion students have not been able to attend school. This analysis focuses on how COVID-19 affected one of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals targets which was quality education. This analysis uses the Sustainable Development Report (2019-2021) to compare the education situation pre and post-COVID-19. The results show that COVID-19 negatively impacts the education sector, such as interruption of learning, reduced access to training or research facilities, job losses, and a rise in student debt. The analysis further shows that during the outbreak of Coronavirus, a number of teachers and pupils were using technology in order to be able to continue their studies via an internet connection. However, the hindrances to online learning included a deficiency in infrastructure, encompassing network challenges, energy supply issues, accessibility limitations, and insufficient digital literacy knowledge. It stresses that COVID-19 has had negative consequences on the education sector and how it is necessary for all learning establishments, teachers, and pupils to take advantage of technological development and learn digital skills if we are to meet current trends and educational realities. © Published under an exclusive license by AIP Publishing.
